Matt FoleyMA, MFT, Certified Hakomi Practitioner
To sit with another human being in their suffering and rawness, in their tears and rage, with occasional breakthroughs into the beautiful and profound – this is an honor, the highest work for me. With my clients we discover and rediscover a simple grounded presence that both transcends and embodies the self, that heals and calms the nervous system. From here, untying the knots of misunderstanding, emotions, and trauma becomes a little more easeful. Hope and healing also spring from this place.
MA, MFT, Certified Hakomi Practitioner
My own journey through depression informs my work with clients. A good sense of humor, a 20-year meditation practice, and a grounded authenticity also help me navigate the healing process. I am also a licensed MFT in practice since 2009. In the end, I believe being real and connected is as powerfully healing as the years of studying and practicing methods and theory. I work with individuals and couples. I also work with teens. I see my role as guide and ally in uncovering old beliefs, seeing cycles of conflict, and rediscovering closeness. I believe change happens from new experience; insight and talking is not enough. My goal is to walk with you, through insight and discovery, to a new experience of yourself as whole, grounded, and connected.
How I Work
My work combines mindfulness, relational psychotherapy, attachment work, and transpersonal and somatic psychology. Emotionally Focused Therapy informs my work with couples. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma, substance abuse, mood disorders, and relational issues. I also do rites of passage work with teens and am an avid climber and skier.
